There is something wonderful about bringing the fresh vibrancy of spring into your home through flowers, lighter linens, or a complete overhaul so it lasts all year long. The latter is what I did for a room in my home in Connecticut. The mood I wanted to capture was the feeling of an eternal spring. I set out to find a print with the simple goal of when I looked at it, it would make me and anyone else who came into the room, happy. I settled on Milton & King’s Cicey in Light Stone. I adore the Queen Anne’s lace print, after all, my alter ego is a wildflower so I felt this print fit it perfectly.

The paper is accented by Money Moves paint from Clare. When it comes to design I have an appreciation for all types from Scandinavian, English country, to gilded French. I’d say my home, which I view as constantly changing, takes cues from each. All of the furniture and goods are vintage and are discoveries I’ve made over time, from thrift stores, estate sales, or the best, Brooklyn stoop finds.

One of the aspects I loved about Milton & King is their focus on sustainability. Every purchase is made to order meaning there is no waste. The PVC-free papers are printed on odorless water-based ink and sourced from sustainably-handled forests.

the print

The Cicey print is a vintage-inspired design that features Queen Anne’s lace flower, a beloved botanical known for growing in unexpected places—from a field to a vacant city lot—and imbuing a dose of whimsy. My favorite aspect of it is that it adds a statement but isn’t overpowering or loud. My advice for choosing a print, especially if you are on the fence about it, is to pick an design that is subtle in color. Other prints to love from Milton & King, along the same lines as Cicey, are the Wild Garlic Wallpaper, Seed Scattering Wallpaper, and the Quince Wallpaper.

Before

To paint or not to paint wood, that is the question. While the wood paneling initially had a cozy effect—when we moved in there were two feet of snow outside—I needed the room to be a more uplifting after spending a few weeks in it.
