A Day of Gratitude | A Thanksgiving Table

Thanksgiving is the ultimate holiday in my book. It combines my favorite things - delicious food, conversations that linger for hours and being surrounded by family and friends.  While we are not hosting Thanksgiving this year (sadly our apartment will not accommodate that many people) I still wanted to create a feast for both the eyes and the senses.   Approaching a large meal might be daunting for some, so stay-tuned for tomorrow's post where I share some tips that allow you to conquer what is at hand with ease.

A fall tablescape should be luxurious and include rich colors with subtle contrasts (for more inspiration check out the Moody Blues feature in the Autumn issue).  Here an emerald green velvet tablecloth added a striking background to the white and gold plates and flatware.  Flowers are essential to any table and here I wanted to create an arrangement using seasonal blooms.  I combined purple-tinged cabbage rosettes with white Astilbe, French lavender and Tallow berries to create a textured centerpiece. Below are some tips to help you create a beautiful table scene.

Setting the Table:
Think Color: For color inspiration think of the flowers that you would like to include or the plates that you will use to serve your guests.  Pick one color to be your main color choice.  If you cannot find the tablecloth that you need, opt for fabric that can be picked up at a fabric store.

Flower Power: A centerpiece is essential for any table gathering.  When choosing flowers, stick with one or two colors and incorporate different iterations of that shade.  Fall has a variety of beautiful flowers from hydrangeas to vibrant colored berries, all are perfect for Thanksgiving.

Create Ambiance: Candles are a great way to add a cozy warmth to any setting. Instead of using candle sticks, incorporate pillars and set them on a pedestal to create a different look.

Make a Statement Through Plates: Incorporating your fine China should not be just reserved for special occasions, in my opinion.  If you are looking for inexpensive options browse your local thrift store or eBay to find pieces that are unique and beautiful.
