The Design Inside: The Wall Street Hotel

Lower Manhattan is known for its narrow web of streets humming with activity, its towering skyscrapers, and for being the crossroads of the financial world. Set among the hustle and bustle is the new The Wall Street Hotel which in contrast to the city environment offers visitors a serene and luxurious oasis in the heartbeat of New York. Here is a closer look inside the sublime new stay.

The Design

The property was designed by Rose Ink Workshop, a Miami-based design firm, which concepted a space that is an ode to the Australian Paspaley family, the owners of the hotel, and Paspaley Pearling Company. Homage is paid throughout the communal spaces and the rooms that display a watery color palette, like the shell of an oyster, juxtaposed with splashes of patterns, and shimmering pearl surfaces. The 180 rooms and suites, some of which offer views of the East River and Brooklyn, are outfitted with Frette linens, inviting soaking tubs, and covetable custom furniture. Thoughtful touches include a metal oyster on the mini-bar, which doubles as a bottle opener, that links to the hotel’s partnership with Billion Oyster Project, a non-profit working to restore oyster reefs in the New York Harbor. Guests can purchase them as a souvenir, where proceeds go to the cause, or can make a donation at check out. Since being in the Big Apple is like having a playground at your feet, the hotel offers a curated concierge service where they can arrange for a tailored city experience.

The Lounge on Pearl lends a glamorous interior with expansive windows, velvet accents, cozy lighting, and corner banquets. It also plays to the city’s past and present with walls swathed in custom, glistening DeGournay wallpaper depicting the evolution of the city, while the ornate marble mantle was taken from The Waldorf Astoria before its renovation. The space is open to guests, and New Yorkers alike, who can enjoy the all-day space from coffee in the morning to a cocktail in the evening.

La Marchande, the newest venture from Chef John Fraser’s hospitality group, offers a lighter take on French fare with a global spin in an inviting setting inspired by an Old-World brasserie. The space was designed by Vicky Charles of Charles & Co. and is fashioned with gilded touches, rattan details—like the incredible hostess stand—a striking raw bar clad in mother-of-pearl, and a carved wooden bar.
