Garden Planning | Formal Flower Garden Inspiration

I’ve been planning a formal flower garden for probably two decades. I’ve been so fortunate to visit so many exquisite gardens around the world and studied so many books, so now it is time to put it all into action. If you are new to ROSE & IVY, I recently swapped nearly twenty years of life in Brooklyn for a more slower pace in the country in Connecticut. I was lucky to have an outdoor space in the city that I maxed out completely. Now that I have some land that is a blank canvas and ripe for imagination. The property needs a lot of landscaping, but I have started by designing and then digging my formal flower garden—I shared a sneak peak in Instagram Stories. It will have a lot of traditional cottage garden plantings like hollyhock and foxglove in addition to a variety of poppies, cosmos, snapdragons and the like, which I’ve started them all from seeds. Here is some inspiration that’s just the tip of the iceberg. More to come on this progress!
