My Favorite Vegetable and Flower Seed Resources

Now is the time to start planning the garden of your dreams. Instead of pickup up plants at the local nursery when the temperatures begin to rise, start now by planting seeds. Here are some of my favorite spots that I love perusing each year about this time.

Seed Savers

The destination for seeds that have been collected and saved from growers far and wide. When it comes to seeds, the biggest obstacle is finding options that have never been genetically engineered. This site offers a myriad of heirloom vegetables, flowers and herbs.

Hudson Valley Seed Co.

A local option that ships around the country—you can also spot them at Terrain. I like that this company has many organic options and also a plethora of flower options from seeds to bulbs and h herb varieties that can’t be found everywhere—skullcap or arnica anyone?

Johnny’s Seeds

Where the professionals go—Johnny’s is an authority when it comes to not only offering an incredible selection but they also offer a wealth of knowledge when it comes to growing your plot. From pole beans and Asian greens to tomatoes of nearly every variety, this is one of my favorites. I also love looking through their catalog and dreaming as I flip through each page.

Floret Flowers

Floret really doesn’t need an introduction, especially if you love flowers, but if you are new to the flower game, they are ones to know. Founded by Erin Benzakein in Washington state, she grows and offers a myriad of specialty seeds from seashell cosmos and bread seed poppies to phlox and strawflower. I have purchased seeds from Floret on a number of occasions are always very pleased with the quality.

American Meadows

In order to sow the wildflower fields of your dreams, turn to American Meadows. Divided by region, they offer a vast assortment like lupine, coneflower and daisies.
