The fall season is all about transition. We go from toasting margaritas to a double-handed-sip of a spiced latte. This is because fall has the unique ability to make us long for cozy-comfort and oversized sweaters. Bring this same warmth into your floral arrangement by selecting rich colors like shades of burgundy, marsala, gold, taupe, sand, chai and ecru. These shades are beautifully versatile as you can make a monochromatic arrangement with just one color or you can blend them together to make a dimensional centerpiece.

Fall brings with it a stunning offering of blooms to drool over. The best way to ensure that your arrangement captures those toasty fall vibes is to feature flowers that thrive throughout the season. Consider using flowers like dahlias, celosia, strawflowers, and cosmos to build an arrangement that is authentic to the season.

Fall is a great time to explore  texture. In the spring we dream of long drives down cherry tree lanes where the branches are heavy with fluffy pink blooms. In the fall we trade in that cloud like fantasy for a starker darker mood. This fall consider adding branches to your centerpiece for a texture that embraces the minimal spirit of the season. Some branches may have coppery leaves and some may consist of only twisting sticks. This element mirrors what is happening in nature and can bring a lot of movement to an arrangement that would otherwise be missed in a blooming centerpiece.

Often when we bring flowers home we find the nearest vase and plop our bouquet into it. Selecting the right vase is the easiest way to elevate any arrangement with minimal effort. If you are looking to step up your flower game consider using a vintage or antique vase. Older vases come with an established history and a floral life of their own. Plus, the worn-in nature of them adds an element of depth that would be missing in a standard glass cylinder. Oh, and please no more mason jars, let's go back to using those for lemonade and pickles.

Flowers can be a source of joy and visual splendor. To make a big design impact, think about bringing in textural elements that support your stunning centerpiece. A billowing chiffon table runner in a muted tone such as stone, oak or cream can bring out the warmth hues in your arrangement. Instead of keeping your fresh fruit in a giant bowl, find a way to incorporate it into your floral display. A compote bowl of unshelled english walnuts or carefully placed pears is a sophisticated way of adding texture and color to your design.
