Los-Angeles based esthetician Shani Darden is the go-to source for results-oriented skincare. She recently opened the doors to her new LA studio with the help of designer Jake Arnold. The soothing, light-filled space is detailed with stone accents, neutral floors and the softest shade of rose throughout. We caught up with the designer to find out what inspired the aesthetic.

What was the aesthetic that Shani Darden wanted to achieve in the space?

The aesthetic Shani and I wanted to create was something that reflected the minimalism of Belgian design where everything has a purpose but at the same time is minimal, earthy and organic int extras , tones and sensibilities.

What key design elements/designers—furniture, objects, textiles—did you incorporate to pull the interiors together?

The main design elements are the texture lime washed walls, the marble statement pieces and the deep rich walnut cabinetry and brass accents. I really enjoy when something unrefined such as the lime wash walls and the rustic floor juxtapose with the cleanliness of the slimline brass hardware and plumbing fixtures to maintain a luxurious feeling.

How many treatment rooms are there in the space and is each unique?

There are 4 treatment rooms, the overall design intent was to keep them feeling consistent and maintain a level of calm by accent recessed lighting. Shani's room is more gracious as she has a lot of additional equipment , so it was important to make her space feel special as after all she is the main attraction. One of the treatment rooms is dedicated to just a light bed which if you haven't tried its a game changer.

The color palette throughout is dreamy. What served as the inspiration behind it?

The inspiration was to combine a wabi sabi sensibility with a touch of feminine soft muted colors which we drew from our favorite stone, Calcutta Viola from Stoneland.
