The Beauty of Greenhouses Across the World
Greenhouses evoke a sense of magic. Typically tucked away among a lush paradise, they are not only meant to house a variety of plants that wouldn’t typically grow in a particular region of the world—like exotic orchids and various types of cacti—but they also serve as a design statement. They are more than just a glass facade, rather, they offer landscaping inspiration and architectural details. Photographers Magnus Edmondson and India Hobson were so inspired by the Oxford greenhouse in England that they decided to explore 32 different countries capturing the unique beauty of greenhouses into their debut book Glasshouse Greenhouse. They explore tropical displays in Australia; a serene lily pad construct in Tokyo and a romantic greenhouse in Yorkshire. “For us greenhouses, in whatever form, are a perfect marriage of man and nature; where the organic and the engineered become a little confused, mixed up and grow wild together, and we don’t think we’ll ever tire of losing an afternoon under a glass roof. We think this is time well spent.”
