Nickel & Diner is a 'cool' place to have breakfast, lunch or dinner, thanks to its minimal design with nostalgic elements, like a long bar with diner-like stools.  Located steps from 11 Howard, the 5-star hotel, serves an eclectic range of food like buttermilk pancakes scented with orange for breakfast to vegetable tempura for lunch.  I opted for the shaved vegetable salad and added chicken - it was delicious, especially the crispy onions served on top.  Also, if you are just looking for coffee they have an 'instagrammable' café where you can stay or take away.
