Spiced Turmeric Apple Cider

A Healthy Twist on a Seasonal Favorite

If you have read this site for a while, you know I preach the power of turmeric. It is a natural form of healing that has been used for centuries and is very  much needed in today's society, especially when it comes to gut health and chronic inflammation wrecking havoc in our bodies.  Each season I made some sort of rendition of my 'turmeric elixir'.  In winter I blend the root with citrus; summer with watermelon or berries and in fall an apple.

I have been drinking a spiced apple version for a few weeks now - I combine one apple, cinnamon and water and swirl it all together in my Vitamix.   While a bit expensive, it has been a personal game-changer for my health, not to mention it can create the silkiest soup textures out there.  It tastes like apple cider you would get from the farmers market or apple orchard.  Usually I drink it cold, but thought to warm it up and wow, yum! Here is the easy recipe.

SPICED TURMERIC APPLE 'CIDER'

2 large apples, cores removed, roughly chopped

2 to 3 inches fresh turmeric root*

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Water

Directions: Place apples, turmeric and cinnamon in a basin of a blender.  Cover with water, about 1 1/2 cups.  Blend until completely liquified.  Pour into a heavy bottomed sauce pot and cook over medium heat until hot.  Pour liquid through a fine sieve and serve.

Serves 1 to 2

*I can handle a lot of turmeric so start with 2 to 3 inches and work your way up. In this case, the more the better but I get if some of you might be a bit adverse to the taste at first.
