ROSE & IVY Journal Escapes Scituate, MA

If you live on the east coast, Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket might be a place that you escape to during the summer months with other eager crowds looking to sip in that same New England charm.  While all of those places are wonderful, we like visiting Scituate, a seaside town with the same atmosphere but is less busy than the other locales in the surrounding area. Situated (pun intended) less than 60 miles south of Boston, this coastal village offers sandy beaches, a picturesque lighthouse, hiking and some delicious bites.  Here is our mini guide the area!

Where to Eat

For coffee & breakfast head to Little Finn Café located on the harbor.  The menu includes a range of coffee beverages, including the cortado pictured below, in addition to breakfast sandwiches and pastries. If you are thinking ahead, they also serve wraps, paninis and salads for lunch.

For dinner, head to Riva Restaurant, where they serve an Italian inspired menu, which encompasses small plates, try the Carmelized Potato Gnocchi, to pasta and fish dishes.

What to See

There are many wonderful beaches in the surrounding areas - a few worth seeing include Peggotty and Humarock beaches.   Nature is also on full display and can be seen on various hiking trails.  Head to Rivermoor Habitat Park to wander on the sandy trails that lead to the marshes, depending on the tide, you can walk out quite far into the inlet.
