A Day Away | Woodstock & Overlook Mountain

Have you ever had one of those days that is just so wonderful you really don't want it to end? This past weekend, we ventured up to Woodstock, New York for my birthday.  My favorite thing to do this time of year is to get out in nature and get as much fresh air as possible - I know that short days are right around the corner.  

The main point of the trip was to hike Overlook Mountain in the Catskills and see the remains of a hotel from the early 1800s.  Being that I love anything old and ruined, the skeleton of this hotel didn't disappoint. I am absolutely fascinated by two things, first the history really isn't known and secondly, it didn't get torn down. To be honest, that is one of my pet peeves about America, we cannot let things exist, but this hotel surely does.  It is hauntingly beautiful, especially when the light beamed through the frameless windows.   I recommend this day trip, or weekend trip from New York.  

Where to Eat: Shindig | A small restaurant serving local, organic food and good coffee.  Hunker down in one of the wooden booths after the hike to refuel. Plus, they serve continuously, so you don't have to worry about missing lunch/dinner.
