Petal by Petal | 'Pastel Grand' Ranunculus

ROSE & IVY JOURNAL PASTEL GRAND RANUNCULAS

It is ranunculus season at the flower market, of course there are the regulars that you can find year round, but this time of year the French and Japanese varieties are out in full form.  This light pink beauty is aptly called 'Pastel Grand' and comes from France.  I have a thing for flowers with ruffly layers and this is just another one to add to the list of favorites.  In bud form they almost look like peonies with a tight and circular shape, but when they open it looks as if a thousand layers are revealed.  I photographed this flower two different ways, one with dramatic lighting (as seen here) and another in a bright scenario, which I will share with you shortly. I am eager to see which one you like better, since I love experimenting with all types of light.
