Botanical record | 'MONTERA DELICIOSA'

While I love flowers, which is demonstrated in my Petal by Petal series, I also love botanicals.  Their greenery and shapes are definitely inspiring, I can see why so many designers look to them for pattern inspiration.    Meet 'montera deliciosa' otherwise known as Monster Leaf.  This leaf comes from the Fruit Salad Plant, which is tropical species that can be found in Mexico, Hawaii and the Seychelles Islands.   With gigantic heart-shaped leaves that can measure from 9 to 35 inches, this is a hardy plant that's leaves can last in fresh water for over two weeks.  I love their waxy surface and vibrant green shade, imparting the perfect amount of greenery to my desk.  Also, recently I have been playing with shadows when doing photography, I love the dramatic effect that they cast on your subject. I couldn't think of a better way to further experiment than with this leaf. This leaf can be purchased at the flower market and various flower shops.
